Mentoring MATC Information Technology Students

MATC’s Spring IT Mentoring program has begun.
I met at MATC after work about a month ago for their Spring IT Women’s Mentoring program. There were about 6 mentors and 18 students interested in learning more about day-to-day activities of those in the information technology field.
Each mentor spoke about their background, how they came into information technology, and what roles they’ve represented. We then had a breakout session where students approached mentors, and asked them some additional in-depth questions. At the end of the session, students and mentors decided which pairs were a fit, and we were off to the races.
My student is a meteorology professional who is also interested in web development. We hope to meet at least monthly if not more. Our first meeting is scheduled after work on
February 20, 2007.
