We’re so lucky to have the Henry Vilas Zoo

I was privileged and honored when Laurie Benson, CEO Inacom Information Systems, asked me to consider being an Ambassador for the Henry Vilas Zoo’s Arctic Blast Event.

The event, focused on renovating the Polar Bear and Seal Zoo habitat, is part of the Zoo’s larger Zoo Century $27 Million 10-year renovation effort to add a New Children’s Zoo, an African Safari Lodge and Mixed Species Exhibit, an improved visitors plaza, and a New Grizzly Bear Exhibit, among other items.

My role, as an ambassador, was to invite 5 – 15 individuals to the Arctic Blast event. Each individual paid $75 to attend the event, which featured hors devours, refreshments, a silent auction, and the opportunity to win a $5,000 diamond donated by Diny’s Jewelers.

The event was held on Friday, February 24, at Electronic Theatre Controls in Middleton, a local company specializing worldwide in lighting for many venues including hotels, casinos, movie sets, opera houses, concert halls, etc. They occupy a new building whose interior replicates a Hollywood movie set, which in and of itself is cool.

The event was a mob scene. There were hundreds of people in attendance. A real whose who of Madison. The event, which raised $10,000 for the Polar Bear and Seal exhibition, was dubbed a huge success.

I’ve been invited to the Zoo on March 23 to check out all their exciting renovation plans. I invite each and every one of you to visit and/or become involved with the Zoo. It’s one of our nations only FREE Zoos. It provides hours of free educational activities, including a Children’s Petting Zoo for families, schools, or anyone wishing to attend. We’re very lucky to have such a wonderful facility in our wonderful city.
